Installation
This beta requires that you have 1.2 already installed.
As always, exit Awasu and back up your installation first!
IMPORTANT: This beta may crash the first time
you run it. If this happens, please run ResetUi.exe and try again.
Major new features
-
A hot and sexy new UI.
-
Docking windows can now be made to auto-hide/show. Look for the pushpin
in the top right-hand corner or use the new Window|Pin menu option. How these
work are described in more detail here.
-
Menus are now personalized i.e. less-frequently used menu items are hidden
but reappear if you tend to use them a lot. If you don't like this feature,
it can be turned off in the Options page of the Tools|Customization dialog.
-
Added a full-screen mode (View|Full screen).
-
Added support for the feed: protocol. This can be controlled from the Advanced page
in the Program Options dialog (it's on by default). This provides a standard way
for publishers to include the URL of their feed on a web page without
having to include a separate link for each different aggregator, like
this.
-
Lots of optimizations, in particular when many channels are being updated simultaneously
and the generation of HTML pages. If you generate large reports, you should
notice a big difference.
-
Added the ability to run a command before and after synchronization. This is
useful since it means you don't have to use FTP to transfer the sync data file
to and from a remote server. For example, you can run SCP or SFTP instead.
-
Added an "Apply to channels" button to the Channel page of the Program Options.
This lets you apply the settings on that page to one or more of your existing
channels. This is a
hack temporary measure until Awasu
is upgraded to allow you to edit more than one channel at the same time.
If you want to change settings for multiple channels that are not on this page,
run the ChannelMaintenance.exe tool.
-
Added a feature to help new users get started with some channel subscriptions
(File|Channel packs).
Minor features and bug fixes
-
Added a new option to auto-show My Channels when the last window is closed
(Display tab of the Program Options dialog).
-
Allow the Channel Wizard to continue even if the feed being subscribed to
contains errors. The feed can also be validated.
-
Channel feeds can be also validated from the Details page of the Channel
Properties dialog.
-
Modified the IE context menu items to use the page URL if you click on something
other than a link. This is useful for things like "Add to Awasu read-me"
since it will add the URL of the page itself to the Read-me list.
-
Added an "Open in Awasu" option to the IE context menu.
-
The currently active channel filter is now saved across sessions.
-
Added a feature similar to auto-subscribe
but for OPML files. Use a URL of the form:
http://127.0.0.1:2604/opml?url=...
-
Added a menu option to cancel all pending notification balloons (Tools|Cancel balloons).
-
Added a switch to allow channel hooks to be attached to channels during
the Channel Wizard (see the Advanced tab of the Program Options).
-
Docking windows can now be docked on any edge of the main window.
-
Added a new {%ITEM-NO%} parameter for channel summary page templates.
-
All log files are written out as UTF-8 instead of Unicode.
-
Worked around a problem
with property lists where you would lose your last edit if you click on OK
without pressing RETURN first.
-
Fixed a bug
where encoded entities in feeds were erroneously being decoded twice.
-
Fixed a problem
where browser panes would sometimes not refresh themselves properly
-
Fixed the problem where toolbars insisted on stacking themselves vertically.
