Awasu 2.4.2 (beta)

Installation

First, backup your existing Awasu installation! [?]

Then choose how you want to install this release:

Upgrade from Awasu 2.4.2.alpha1 or alpha2

1. Unpack the release ZIP file on top of your existing installation.

   
   
2. If you like to be tidy, delete the Search Result Templates directory in the Resources sub-directory under the Awasu installation directory (by default, C:\Program Files\Awasu).

Upgrade from Awasu 2.4.1

1. Unpack the release ZIP file on top of your existing installation.

   
   
2. Run admin.exe to upgrade your database (this will be quick).
3. If you like to be tidy, delete the Search Result Templates directory in the Resources sub-directory under the Awasu installation directory (by default, C:\Program Files\Awasu).

Upgrade from Awasu 2.4

You must upgrade to Awasu 2.4.1 before installing this release.

Upgrade from a version of Awasu prior to 2.4

You must upgrade to Awasu 2.4, then Awasu 2.4.1 before installing this release.

Create a clean installation

To install a clean copy of this release:

1. Create a new directory and unpack the release ZIP file into it.

   
   
2. Unpack this file into the same directory: bcg953u2.zip
3. Unpack this file into the same directory: msvc71.zip
4. Unpack this file into the same directory: py25.zip
5. Delete the Awasu.upgrade file from the Awasu installation directory.

This installation will not appear in the Control Panel's Add or Remove Programs but can be removed simply by deleting the entire directory.

IMPORTANT: It is strongly recommended that you run this installation of Awasu in portable mode.

Reinstall Awasu 2.4.2

1. Unpack the release ZIP file on top of your existing 2.4.2 installation.

   
   
2. Delete the Awasu.upgrade file in the Awasu installation directory.

New features

The main new feature in this release is the HTTP API that allows Awasu to be queried and controlled.

Other key additions are:

• An arbitrary command can now be run after a channel report is generated e.g. to do some post-processing on it. The command supports the following parameters:
  • {%REPORT-FILENAME%}
  • {%REPORT-NAME%}
  • {%REPORT-DESCRIPTION%}
  • {%CHANNEL-FILTER-NAME%}
  • {%TEMPLATE-FILENAME%}
  • {%CHANNEL-FOLDERS%} (as a comma-separated list)
  • {%WORKPAD-NAME%}
  • any other parameters that have been defined for the report
• Uploading reports to an FTP server now allow strftime-style parameters in the URL.
  For example, the current date can now be embedded in the name of the uploaded file e.g. ftp://myserver.com/report-{%d%}.{%m%}.{%Y%}.html

Minor changes and bug fixes

• Folders in My Channels can now be sorted (right-click, Folders | Sort folders).
• Search channels now use the published/modified times of the source feed items.
• Fixed a problem that was causing a blank page to be shown when opening a channel whose item pane is being sorted, and River of news is disabled.
• Clicking on an item in the item pane now opens the page correctly even if items are being sorted.
