Is There Something Wrong With This Feed?

The following channel feed started failing a couple of days ago: http://feeds.arstechnica.com/arstechnica/index The Awasu logs show the following error: 05jun10 11:00:51 Ars Technica error: Can't update the channel. - XML parse failed (11:L350:C79): undefined entity However, the NewsRoom for Android...

I just updated to 2.4.1.alpha1. Yes, I am using the Pro Edition.

Re: Multiple Channels Using Same Channel Plugin Fail To Upda

The way to check if this is what's happening is to be absolutely sure that the plugin is writing to stdout (e.g. I would build the feed in a string buffer and then print it to stdout and another temp file), then wait for the channel to get the error. If you get the "script didn't generate any ...

Re: Multiple Channels Using Same Channel Plugin Fail To Upda

:( False alarm. It's not resolved. After rebooting and waiting several hours, the errors reappeared. "Show last feed" reveals the following: <head> <meta> </head> <html><body> <p>The script didn't generate any output.</p> </body></html> I will next output a static feed and let you know wha...

Re: Multiple Channels Using Same Channel Plugin Fail To Upda

Were there any clues in the "last feed XML" for the erroring channels? I'm afraid there weren't any useful clues. It either showed the correctly formatted xml or the error message only. Since my last post, I made one change to the application and that appears to have solved the pro...

Re: Multiple Channels Using Same Channel Plugin Fail To Upda

Is it one of ours or one you've written yourself? It's one I wrote. My guess is that the problem is with the plugin itself. I'm not sure. I thought I resolved the issue by replacing AltovaXML, which is what I was using to perform an XSLT transfomation, with Saxon. However, I'm still experiencing th...

Multiple Channels Using Same Channel Plugin Fail To Update

I have three channels defined to use the same Channel Plugin. The only difference is the url. During updates one or two of the three channels always fail with the message

Can't determine the feed type.

If I update the failed channels individually, they succeed.

Re: Awasu Only Shows First Item for Channel Plugin

I was setting up the stuff you emailed me when I suddenly remembered that all output generated by external programs has to be UTF-8. Awasu can't look for an encoding declaration in the output, primarily because it needs to know the encoding to be able to interpret the output correctly - catch 22! I...

Re: Awasu Only Shows First Item for Channel Plugin

BTW, I got an error trying to run your plugins[/code] Are you running it from within Awasu or a Command Prompt? If it's from Awasu, it should have permissions to read the input file since it's in a temp directory. If it's the Command Prompt, you need to pass the full path to the file, otherwise it ...

Re: Awasu Only Shows First Item for Channel Plugin

What is the declaration? I was using an XmlWriter to output the XML to a StringBuilder object. In this case, the declaration was: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?>. However, when I changed the code so that the XmlWriter outputs the XML to the Console.Out property, which is...

Re: Awasu Only Shows First Item for Channel Plugin

Thanks. It works perfectly now.

However, I have one last question. Is it by design that the feed fails when an XML declaration is included in the output? It generates an "Can't determine the feed type" error.

Awasu Only Shows First Item for Channel Plugin

I created a channel plugin (.NET Console Application, no .plugin config file). When I add it to Awasu using the Channel Wizard, it only shows the first item. Both IE7 and Firefox 3.0.7 displays it properly when loaded from my local IIS web server. Please help. I'm using Awasu 2.4. Here's the output ...

Re: Apply Channel Options Globally

Sigh. A new feature to make changes to multiple channels is coming Real Soon Now, once I figure out how to design the UI for it. It's extraordinarily tricky :-( I can imagine In the meantime, you will find the <tt>ChannelMaintenance.exe</tt> utility in the Awasu installation directory that will let...
