Happy New Year folks.
When I fire up Awasu it starts updating all channels automatically.
Is there a pause button somewhere that I have missed?

And to you too :-)

Is there some reason why you don't want them to update? Awasu looks at the last time a channel was updated, considers how often the channel is supposed to be updated and then makes a decision based on that. For example, if you have a channel that's configured to update every 6 hours and you shutdown your Awasu at midnight and don't restart it until 9am, since the next scheduled update was at 6am, which has already passed, Awasu will update the channel as soon as it starts.

There is an option to delay updates for a small amount of time after startup (Program Options, Delay before updating channels) which is intended for computers that take some time before their internet connection is usable (typically because they need to get an IP address).

Sometimes I just want to open Awasu quickly to add some new feeds. Once it starts updating there are two issues:

1) the application is less responsive
2) typically crashes if I try and exit the application whilst it is updating

Setting the "delay before updating" to, say 600 seconds, will do the trick. If you really want to update your channels, you can do it manually (Tools|Update all channels).

Hmmm, this hasn't been the case for a while. Send the crash log in!

And there is another (slightly hacky) option: create a file for each new channel in your Channels sub-directory that looks like this:

Code: Select all

[Config]
RssChannelUrl=http://...

It doesn't matter what the file is called, as long as it has a .CHANNEL extension. Awasu will notice it the next time it starts up and create a new channel for it.

Many Tanks.
Setting a prolonged delay at start up is a viable workaround.
