"Smart Menus" are freaking annoying

I've never liked smart menus. I hated them in the windows OS and turned them off. I hated them in microsoft office software and turned them off. And sadly, I'm not terribly fond of them in AWASU and I really wish i could turn them off.

By "smart menus" i mean that thing were only some of the items on the menu show up until you scroll down to the arrow on the bottom of the list. Then the menu redraws to display the item i wanted in the first place.

I don't know who invented these things, but I'm guessing it was microsoft. They're inherently evil and they cost me time by trying to save it. Please consider adding an option to disable these things.

Sorry, if i sound crabby. I've been reading about politics again.

I don't like them either :-) but some people do. You can turn them off: Tools|Customize dialog, Options page.

Hey, I hate those smart menus too. So, *how do you* turn off those darn things in Windows and Office anyway? Please tell. Thanks. :)

Sorry about the off-topic post, but I consider getting rid of the "stupid menus" essential to ones mental health and hope you don't mind the digression too much.

Windows XP:
Right-click on "Start", Properties, Start Menu, Classic Start menu, Customize, unselect "Use Personalized Menus".

Word:
Right-click somewhere on the toolbar, Customize, Options, check "Always show full menus". (IIRC, this disables them in other Office applications also.)

targon, 8) Thank you so much. Kinda sneaky place for XP to hide that!

p.s. Taka, thanks for indulging the OT. I do use notepad alot myself & I'm not even a programer! :P
