I downloaded and installed the personal edition 2.2 on Windows 2003. The program crashed immediately with the following error:

The instruction at "0x0121480c" referenced memory at "0x0121480c". The memory could not be "written".

Apparently, the program is trying to overwrite itself.

Is this happening every time? Is this the first time you are running Awasu (i.e. is it a clean installation)?

Awasu doesn't do anything funky like self-modifying code and we've run it on W2003 so it must be something else...

I have just downloaded personal edition 2.2d and installed on Windows Server 2003 SP1 and I have the same problem.

It's a clean installation.

Can you help me?

Bugger. IIRC, the OP resolved the problem by himself but I can't remember what it was and I can't find anything in my email from him. I think he turned some setting on or off.

You could try PM'ing him and hopefully an email will get through.

Hi, was this issue ever resolved for installing Awasu on Windows Server 2003. I am getting the similar problem while installing Awasu version 2.4.1 on Windows Server 2003.

The following shows the Awasu exception error: awasu.exe caused and EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION in module awasu.exe at 001B:00416DF

The following shows the information about the Server OS
Windows Server 2003
Version:5.0002
Build Number 3790

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you on this one (had a few problems with our 2003 server).

Unfortunately, everything is still working fine for me and I can't get this crash to happen. Have you tried completely blowing away all your user's data files? Delete all the .db files listed here, and the Index sub-directory, then see if Awasu will start up. Does running as Administrator make a difference?

Thanks for the suggestions. Fortunately the problem has been solved. Unfortunately, i am not sure how.

As mentioned, I was trying to run Awasu on a Windows 2003 Server. The Server was on a VPS hosted by a Server farm. I had tried several configuration options to try to solve the crashing problem. My last attempt was to load a newer version of IE. However, attempting to installed IE 8, totally brought the VPS server to its knees.

I subsequently had to ask the Support at the Hosting Site to re-image my VPS with the latest version of IE. (IE8). I then reinstalled Awasu and have not experienced any crashing issues like i had first described.

I am still not sure what was causing the crashing issues; a corrupt Windows 2003 VPS image or an older version of IE running on Windows 2003. Either way i am happy Awasu is running again :D
