I have a feed that updates daily but Awasu always marks everything as read. The new items are received but never marked as new.

http://www.themorgans.dsl.pipex.com/feeds/egyptiangazette.rss

The contents of the feed is refreshed daily and is created by a Perl script scrapper I knocked up.

'Mark all items as read on close' is not set.

This is a known issue. If a feed doesn't assign unique GUID's to each item to uniquely identify them, Awasu uses the item URL as the identifier instead. Items will then be tracked as read/unread via their URL's and so if a new item comes in that has a URL as one that has previously been marked as read, the new item will also be flagged as read.

The solution is to either assign unique item GUID's or unique item URL's.

Thanks. I scrape the feed from a daily newspaper that only keeps the current issue on its website and the URLs do not ever change. I'll looking at using the Perl module

Code: Select all

Win32::Guidgen
to generate a unique GUID for each item in the feed.

Thanks,
Mark.

Or you could just make a GUID from an item's title plus current date/time.

This GUID could be used as <guid> or -- better I think, based on experience with today's Awasu -- tack "/?=GUID" on the end of your link URLs.

Ok, switched feed to RSS 2.0 and added a unique guid element. No difference.

I guess I'll try changing the link element...

Post the generated feed here (or email it) and I'll take a look at it.
