Here I go again sticking my nose into somebody else's problem.
Hey altica, have you ever gotten the sendmail plugin to work with any channels?
Also does your email provider require Secure Password Authentication (SPA), use non-standard TCP/IP ports or require Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)?
Channel Hook debugging tip #1
Attach the Channel Hook to a frequently updated feed, and manually update the feed (Ctrl+U
) as often as you need to, rather than waiting 30 minutes between updates.
My favorite frequently updated feed is the plain old Google News feed. Don't search for anything, you want all the news of the world, all the time. I'd suggest you change Awasu's Archive setting for the Channel to the minimum setting: 1 day. We don't actually want to keep and read the news, we just want it to trigger our Channel Hook.
If you manually update the feed and you see new items have arrived then you should
get an email. If you don't, tweak your email settings and by the time you've finished tweaking, there'll be new items in the Google News feed, so Ctrl+U
again. No such thing as a slow news day!
A more "generic" Channel Hook like the sendmail
hook is perfect for this kind of debugging as it should fire for any new items. If a Channel Hook inspected the feed items and only preformed an action based upon some esoteric feed content, you might need to temporarily genericize the esoteric portion during debugging.
