Ah, you've hit on a fundamental difference in the way a feed reader can be designed.
Some feed readers, like your old one, show only one item at a time but Awasu has been designed to let you get through a large number of items from a large number of channels very quickly. So, it shows you all the items on a single page which you can quickly scan through and if you're interested in any of them, then you can click through.
You also don't need to be constantly "deleting" items, Awasu does it automatically (you simply configure how long you want to keep stuff and Awasu takes care of the rest).
A lot of people configure their channels to only show unread items and mark things as read if they don't want to see them any more. Or you can configure channels to automatically mark everything as read when you close their window.
RSS is not the same as email, so designing a feed reader to work in exactly the same way as your email program is not the best way to do things
