Awasu can still be used, even when you're not connected to the Internet.
This is great if you use a laptop since you can leave Awasu running overnight to download all the latest news, then take it with you to read on your way to work in morning or during lunch at the coffee-shop! Or if you're on dialup, you can download everything in one go, then disconnect and read it at your leisure.
Feed publishers will often only include an excerpt of each feed item (or sometime nothing at all!) which means you have to click through to read the entire article, not much use if you're not online.
Awasu can be configured to download the linked-to articles and store them in its database, so you can read them even when you're offline [1].
Feed items that are available offline are marked with a special icon in the channel summary pages.

Feed items also often have images embedded in them which will be displayed as ugly "broken image" boxes if you are not online.
To get around this, Awasu can be configured to download these images and show them even when you are offline [2].
